Ackerman
Artist, Singing Actor, Dancer, and Teacher/Coach
Hallie Ackerman is a coloratura soprano and creative based in Michigan with a love for language and raw emotion.
At age 3, Hallie began dance classes and performing on stage at age 5. She has skills in many dance styles, acting, musical theater, voice-over acting and more. She started training classically at age 10 and has worked with Professor Heather McCallum from Hope College and Professor Richard Fracker from Michigan State University. Hallie has been able to participate in many masterclasses, competitions, and recitals over the years as she has continued to grow and learn as an artist.
Hallie’s first opera credit dates back to 2015, through Opera Grand Rapids’ production of Carmen as part of the children’s chorus. She completed her Undergraduate Degree in Vocal Performance, under the tutelage of Stephen Lusmann and Freda Herseth. While in her studies she performed such roles as Sandmann in Hänsel und Gretel, and a Chorus Member in Don Giovanni, and Cunning Little Vixen. Hallie had the privilege of being involved in collaboration workshops for new operas such as The House on Mango Street (2024), and Pigeon Keeper (2024) through the university. She was also selected to perform in the choir for Mahler no.2 through Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, Hallie is pursuing her Masters Degree in Opera Performance at the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Christine Goerke, on the Andrea Person Scholarship of the Tuesday Musicale, Hannah Catherine Beaver Endowment Fund, and the Anita Kupriss and Richard Douglas Scholarship. At the University of Michigan, she recently performed the roles of Iris in Semele, and was part of the University of Michigan Chamber Choir performance in New York City in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic, Exigence Vocal Ensemble, Thomas Adès, and Yuja Wang. Outside of the university, Hallie performed as First Witch and covered the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas through Opera de Metro in 2025.
Internationally, through Tokyo Opera Studio, Hallie most recently performed the iconic role of Olympia from Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Tokyo, Japan. She also was seen performing a solo during the University of Michigan Chamber Choir tour in Rosario, Argentina in Teatro el Circulo in 2024.

Fun Fact: Hallie was named one of the Top 8 Scholars in the state of Michigan through the LAND Student Scholar Competition through her play-essay named “The Choice” back in 2021!
